Rediscovering treasure

Don’t you love going on adventures and discovering new treasures? When I was a kid part of the fun was just setting out walking around with someone and discovering new trails or new places in the wilderness that we hadn’t been before & finding a new spot that we could call just ours. Finding shortcuts from your house to the nearest pool or to the shopping center down the road, that was always one of the best summer accomplishments. Even better was when you were discovering new paths on your bike and it took you over dusty bumpy hills that would launch you into the air. The thrill of discovery is still in my blood. It just looks a little bit different these days. Now my discovered treasures are a little more every day treasurers. Finding the long lost Tupperware lid, discovering that I did not lose that second earring, and it was just in the bottom of my jewelry drawer, finding money in my winter coat.

One of the best things about not being crafty for so long means that I am rediscovering my old supplies. I have some glorious treasures that I knew were awesome back in the day but now that I’m rediscovering them they’re just as exciting as the first time I saw them.

A very long time ago, I was a consultant for The Angel Company. It was a stamping/scrapbooking company. They had some of the cutest stamps and even cuter paper packs. The designers that worked with angel company where top-notch and the catalogs had the best cards and layouts in them. I have quite a lot of stamps from them as well as a lot of paper packs. Part of the fun of discovering long lost paper packs is the ability to use them on a brand new layout. That’s what I’ve done with this layout.

I’m using an oldie but goodie from TAC called More Mimi paper pack. It has some of the cutest papers in it. I’m not sure if I had a complete paper pack when I started this layout, but there’s still quite a few pieces of paper left in it and also some embellishments. The paper pack included a lot of diecut tags in different styles and shapes that you could use on your cards or your scrapbooks. The colors in this paper pack are so gorgeous. They jumped out at me when I was rediscovering all of my scrapbooking paper and I just knew I needed to use this paper pack right away.

All of the paper is from TAC except for the white card stock. I didn’t recall where the white cardstock came from. I’ve had it for quite a while. Actually, one of the pieces is a filler paper from Creative Memories paper.

Speaking of Creative Memories, I also used the custom cutting system on this layout. I cut rectangles, and then I used the circles from the CCS, to cut the top of the rectangle off in order to make an arch shape.

A lot of the tools that I own come from Creative Memories because they make some really great products.

I particularly love this layout because of the way the squares are quilted on the page. I love the look that they give to the layout, anything reminiscent of a quilt just gives you the warm fuzzies.

I did not finish this layout because I am not sure which photos I’m gonna use and therefore I didn’t put a title on the layout. I left room in the top left side for my title. There’s plenty of room to add extra stickers or other embellishments once I decide on which photos to use. And for a fun touch on the top right side, I used two of the tag embellishments from the More Mimi paper pack to create some journaling places.

This particular layout seemed very overwhelming because there was a lot going on in this layout. So I decided to break it down into smaller bites and get a little bit done each day..

Even though the kids are grown and can fend for themselves, I still suffer from Mom guilt. If the dishes aren’t done or the laundry needs to be put away or something in the house needs to be cleaned or tidied, I feel like I haven’t lived up to my responsibilities. And the guilt hits HARD.

So for me looking at this layout, I knew I did not have a few hours to sit down and complete it in one session. So I decided to make some videos while I look at the whole layout and then take it piece by piece each day. Whether you are a busy mom, or you have a full-time job, you should still be able to enjoy a hobby that brings you happiness. Even if it is a little bit at a time each day.

In the videos, I show you how you can take small bites out of this layout and spend about 10 minutes a day getting parts of the layout done and then in the end you’ll have all your parts ready to go so you can complete the layout.

Even in the chaos and busyness of your life; I hope that you’re able to find a few minutes each day, doing something that will bring you joy.

Please take a look at the videos and see how I was able to do just that. And how I brought a little scrap happiness back into my life.
